It is used to store documents in folders arranged in a specific order, generally alphabetical order. Two drawer file cabinets are usually made of wood or metal and all come with locks. Each drawer has a small handle that the owner or user can easily grasp and pull. To prevent the drawer from being completely pulled out of the cabinet, the majority of 2 drawer file cabinets come with an outstop which stops the drawer when it reaches a certain point on the sliding mechanism.

Looks like a great cabinet.The drawers of most vertical filing cabinets are engineered to accept hanging file folders, as these have come to dominate the way most users store information. Some files still have a “follower block” in each drawer. This is a device that adjusts the apparent depth of the drawer interior so that files are kept upright in the drawer. These are the legacy of a time when most filing was done with manila folders rather than hanging files.

In the US, these come in two sizes: for letter-size paper and legal-size paper. Most modern commercially-oriented vertical filing cabinets in the US are manufactured in two-, three-, four-, and five-drawer versions in depths of 25, 26½, and 28 inches. The drawers are typically supported on a three-member suspension system that allows the drawer to be fully extended for complete access.

I agree, some of the original, "old" methods of treating wood are still very much "up to date' and some are even still the preferred method of working with wood.On my own page, I try to educate beginners in woodworking on techniques for building cabinets and on different ways to build furniture. Here, too, there are some old-fashoned techniques that are still used out there.

I prefer a wooden cabinet than a metal one because a metal one does not blend with the furnishings. The wooden ones complements the furnishings and make the room look nicer.

Filing cabinet is mostly created on steel for durability. I wonder what would be the advantage of a wooden filing cabinet from steel especially we all know that steel is far more durable than wood.
